EGAS has been active in the past year; the company recently signed nine agreements worth $981 million to explore natural gas and drill 18 exploration wells. With major gas resources in the country, it has attracted the interest of major international oil companies. In January 2021, TotalEnergies signed a deal with EGAS for exploration and production in the North Ras Kanayis offshore block in the Herodotus Basin, covering 4,550 square kilometres. The company also agreed to partner with Italian major Eni to restart the Damietta LNG plant, which will increase LNG volumes by 3.78 bcm per year.
