Glasspoint’s technique for harnessing sunshine to generate steam to enhance oil recovery (EOR) is seeing results at the Amal oilfield in Oman, where its one gigawatt Miraah solar plant, in conjunction with PDO, has commenced operations. The first four blocks (out of an eventual total of 36) have a total capacity of over 100 megawatts and deliver 660 tonnes of steam daily. Glasspoint hopes to penetrate other markets with its solution.
