Saudi Aramco came out on top in the closely fought HSE Product/Application of the Year Award.
In a category boasting six shortlisted companies, Aramco’s e-Factory, IT Future driving application was victorious.
“It’s fantastic, mainly because it’s an area – traffic safety – which is really important in the region. It’s about approaching saving lives in a different type of way. We’ve put the driver at the centre of what we’re doing, and rather than just look at processes, we’ve put driver behaviour first,” said Samantha Horseman, human energy management at Saudi Aramco.
“We’ve looked at brain and body behaviours and added engineering to make a car that looks at behaviours and takes rage, anger, fatigue and that type of thing into account.
“This is cutting edge and looks beyond the tech that exists today. What we’ve created is the interface of the future. In industry, we don’t put the behaviour and end user at the centre of technology, but we have done in this case and I think that may have stuck out to the judges.
“It’s an Aramco patent that we’ve involved our interns with to come into the workshop and help us build. They are part of our future.
The nomination for the winning initiative was recognised as being “strongly backed by research and well thought out”. One judge picked it out as ‘an HSE application that addresses a main concern, specific to the region for employee safety.’ It was also described as being the “next step in road care safety systems.”
Highly Commended in this category was Health Critical Job Categorisation from Kuwait Oil Company.
The Highly Commended nomination was praised by judges for its concept of offering improvements in health and safety via smart categorisation of job specific risks.
