AlMansoori Specialized Engineering won the highly contested 2015 Health, Safety, and the Environment (HSE) Initiative of the Year award.
The Health Monitoring Management System (HMMS), which costs the company an estimated $545,000 a year, was developed as a result “of a lot of hard work”, the management representatives, who received the award, said.
“We are always thinking of ways to improve. We have to cope with this challenging environment. If we have healthy and happy employees, that will make it a lot easier for us,” Ibrahim Al-Alawi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, commented.
Karim A. Pachiyannakis, Corporate HSEQ Manager, AlMansoori Specialzed Engineering, said he was confident about his company winning the award. “I believe we were confident because it is a comprehensive system, it is holistic,” he said.
Up against Al Mansoori’s HMMS was Al Hosn Gas’ ‘Live Field Monitoring’ initiative, which was ‘highly commended’ by the judges for being a “solid step in environmental care”, as one of them observed.
Elaborating on the HMMS initiative, Pachiyannakis said: “It is a management system where our employees come in and they are categorised into one of the four categories, based on the health lab results. Then specific programmes are designed for them by two reputed holistic doctors in the company.
“They are given a programme if they are not healthy, to change their lifestyles, to make sure that they convert and start leading a healthier lifestyle through education, company initiatives, sports and clubhouse activities. They are sent SMS notifications on their phones to improve their daily health.
“Also, it is not limited to employees and is extended to their family members. They too are taken care of and invited to participate in activities, and hence it encompasses the whole family.”
AlMansoori is currently working on a number of major regional projects. The company has won a contract for BAPCO in Bahrain, which is “huge” and worth “a few million dollars” according to Al-Alawi.
It also recently won a contract for BAPETCo in Egypt, which he says is worth “a few hundred thousand dollars.”
