Saudi Arabia’s Tasnee Petrochemicals was announced as the winner in the Operational Strategy of the Year category at the Oil and Gas Middle East and RPME award ceremony held in Abu Dhabi last night.
Tasnee scooped the award for its highly successful Manufacturing Transformation Programme (MTP) which was designed and implemented at its 400, 000- tonne High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Plant in KSA.
With no capital investment whatsoever, the MTP team managed to achieve new daily, weekly and monthly production records sustainably, as well as 42% reduction in off-grade production and 8%-10% increase of output rate for different grades, while also improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) by 25.3%.
The strategy was described as an “excellent programme with real tangible results” and “showing a systematic approach to operational excellence with proven results, including culture change.”
Harith Muthanna Al-Qurtass, Manufacturing Excellence Executive, Tasnee, said: “It has been a long journey, [we’ve been through some] very difficult times and this awards gives us a recognition of [achieving] the target we had in mind.”
“Every member of the team deserves this award as much as the people here if not more. They were able to achieve much more than what we expected. We are very proud of them.”
Highly Commended in this fiercely contested category was another major downstream player from Saudi Arabia – Petro Rabigh, who was praise for its Large Scale Transformation Roadmap.
Reflecting on the details of the Highly Commended entry, one judge commented: “This is a very strong reflection of implementation, which is what operational excellence can be restrained by, if not done properly.’
The award was presented to the winners by Colin chapman, President of Euro Petroleum Consultants- category sponsors.
