Top 5 oil and gas contracts in the Middle East: January 2023

In case you missed the announcements, here is a list of the top five contracts secured for oil and gas projects in the region

The first month of the year witnessed a strong momentum of project activity in the Middle East region. ADNOC made headlines after it awarded major contracts for its landmark Hail and Ghasha development. Nearly $140 million of total contracts were awarded for pre-construction works of the megaproject.

Oil & Gas Middle East lists – in no particular order or ranking – the major contracts secured for diverse projects in the sector for the month of January 2023.

1. NPCC, Saipem secure $60 million pre-construction award from ADNOC

National Petroleum Construction Co (NPCC) and its joint venture partners Saipem and China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corp secured a $60 million contract for the pre-construction works related to the offshore facilities of the landmark Hail and Ghasha gas development project.

The contract covers the early project activities such as initial detailed engineering and procurement of critical long lead items. The scope of work also includes the preparation of an Open Book Estimate for the full project delivery scope, which will be considered as part of ADNOC’s Final Investment Decision making process.

2. Tecnimont, Technip Energies, and Samsung Engineering win $80 million contract

For the Hail and Ghasha megaproject, ADNOC awarded another early engineering and procurement works contract worth $80 million to a JV composed of Tecnimont, Technip Energies, and Samsung Engineering.  

The scope of work also includes the preparation of an Open Book Estimate for the full project delivery scope, which will be considered as part of the Client’s Final Investment Decision.

3. Technip Energies secures contract for Aramco’s Riyadh refinery upgrade

French engineering and technology company Technip Energies was awarded a contract to upgrade sulfur recovery facilities at Aramco’s Riyadh Refinery as part of its long-term agreement with Aramco.

This contract covers the implementation of three new tail gas treatment (TGT) units, improving the performance of the existing three sulfur recovery units (SRU) to comply with more stringent regulations for sulfur dioxide emissions, with recovery efficiency at more than 99.9%.

4. Aramco awards $173 million contract to Arabian Drilling

Saudi oilfield services company Arabian Drilling won a $173 million contract for offshore jack up unit from Saudi Aramco.

As part of the 5-year contract, which is expected to commence in Q3 2023, Arabian Drilling will supply an offshore jack up unit with full crew to perform offshore drilling services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

5. Gas Arabian Services wins $37.2 million contract for Aramco’s Zuluf field

GAS Arabian Services Co secured a $37.2 million contract from JGC Arabia Limited for Saudi Aramco’s Zuluf Onshore oil facilities project.

Scope of work includes pre-assembly of steel structure, steel structure erection, equipment installation, piping, painting and MCS MP support services.

Zuluf field is a giant offshore oil field located in the Arabian Gulf, approximately 240km north of Dhahran.
