UK-based Brinker Technology has marked the opening of its first Middle East facility with the appointment of Spencer Vanderpal who will head up operations in the region.

Vanderpal has been appointed as Middle East regional manager and will lead Brinker’s regional operations from its headquarters in Dubai.

Bringing with him a wealth of experience spanning over 26 years in the oil field industry, Mr Vanderpal joined Brinker from iTec. Previous positions saw him work for Expro North Sea and Occidental in Gabon, before moving to Qatar where he was responsible for planning, designing and running multi-lateral completions, and Oman, where he established Weatherford’s completions division.

With a considerable understanding of the oil and gas sector, Mr Vanderpal’s role will see him building upon Brinker’s strong client portfolio, delivering innovative field-wide well integrity solutions.

“I am thrilled to join Brinker as we increase our presence in the Middle East and I look forward to working with our key clients across the region,” said Mr Vanderpal. “Our technology can radically change the way operators manage their fields, dramatically reducing the time it takes to turn shut-in wells and those operating under dispensation back to full production, saving our clients time and adding significant value to their operations.”

This latest announcement comes as Brinker revealed its Middle East growth strategy where the company expects the Middle East to represent one quarter of its business by end of 2012.

Brinker’s vice president of sales and operations, Kenny McAllister added: “I am pleased to welcome Spencer to the Brinker team at this exciting time in our development. Having the right people in place is fundamental to our success and Spencer’s experience and knowledge will provide a great platform to grow and enhance our Middle East operations.”

Brinker’s Platelet Barrier Technology deploys free-floating discreet particles called ‘Platelets’ into a flowing system. The Platelets are specifically engineered for the size of the leak and the operating conditions of the system. Suspended within an engineered fluid, the Platelets are pumped downhole, through the wellhead, down the annulus, and on reaching the leak, pressure differential forces entrain them into the defect creating a permanent mechanical seal passing full well integrity testing and certification.

Platelets provide a fully mobile, compact and permanent solution that has the capability to manage integrity issues across an entire field. Carried in a briefcase, so negating the large equipment footprint required by a standard workover, the technology can be deployed anywhere in the world and is virtually risk-free compared to other, rig-based intervention solutions that are complex, expensive and can take months of planning.

Brinker provides rigless thru-wellhead workover services for simultaneously finding and fixing well leaks using our unique Platelet barrier technology. We are the only company that does this from the top of the wellhead down, without removing the wellhead itself.
