Demand in the workboats sector has held up amid the financial crisis, according to an industry insider.
“What we see in this part of the world and this segment, the work boats and supply business, is there is still a demand coming from the local needs in the UAE area,” revealed Omar Omar, district manager, DNV.
“There are still rigs under construction, there is still oil exploration, there is still a need for workboats to go back and forth for the offshore this market so at this point I would say this market is not growing a lot, it is stabilising with a little bit of growth,” he added.
Omar, speaking at the Middle East Work Boats exhibition in Abu Dhabi, also revealed that the company has tried to increase customer confidence through cost cutting and increased training throughout the economic trouble.
“We are trying to increase training to customers and increase awareness of how they can work in these circumstances with more quality, safety and efficiency,” Omar concluded.
