Saudi Aramco has denied that it has suffered another cyber attack earlier this week, similar in type to the Shamoon virus attack last year, according to Reuters.
The Saudi state oil producer said on Tuesday that it had shut some of its computers for an upgrade, although posts on Twitter on Tuesday said some or all of Aramco’s computers were down, possibly because of a cyber attack.
“Saudi Aramco confirms its electronic network is completely safe and speculations of an electronic breach are completely untrue and we point out that the shutdown that took place is a temporary shutdown of a limited number of personal computers at the company that was the result of an update of some electronic applications of the network,” the company said in a statement to Reuters.
In late 2012 Saudi Aramco suffered a cyber attack that damaged 30,000 of its computers. The virus, called Shamoon, was intended to stop production and export to local and international markets, according to a statement released by the company.
