With energy security on top of the agenda and historic earnings for E&P companies, key industry players are continuing momentum for exploration and production activities in the Middle East region. This month saw announcements from NOCs on major projects in the region, including development of renewable energy projects.
Oil & Gas Middle East lists – in no particular order or ranking – the major contracts secured for diverse projects in the sector for the month of August 2022.

1. Tinrhert EPC2 Development Project
Scope of work: EPC
A joint venture between UK-based international energy services provider Petrofac and Genie Civil et Batiment were awarded an EPC contract for the Sonatrach-operated Tinrhert EPC2 Development Project in Algeria.
The contract is valued at approximately US$300 million, with Petrofac’s share around US$200 million, the company announced on August 4.
The scope of work also includes tie-ins to the existing Alrar Separation and Boosting Facilities, which Petrofac originally helped deliver in 2018, along with commissioning, start-up and performance testing.
2. Industrial Cities Solar Power Project
Scope of work: EPC
QatarEnergy has awarded an EPC contract to Samsung C&T for its industrial cities solar power project (IC Solar) that includes 2 large scale PV solar power plants to be built in Qatar’s industrial cities.
The project marks the first investment of QatarEnergy Renewable Solutions, which will invest in and hold Qatar’s renewables and other sustainable initiatives, moving forward.
3. Quiluma & Maboqueiro fields development
Scope of work: EPC
Saipem has been awarded one onshore and two offshore contracts worth $900 million by the Azule Energy-led New Gas Consortium, the company announced on August 11.
The contracts include EPC activities relevant to the Quiluma & Maboqueiro fields’ development project off the northwest coast of Angola.
4. North Field South LNG project
Scope of work: FEED
McDermott International has been awarded a front-end engineering and design (FFED) contract from state-owned QatarEnergy for the second-phase expansion of the North Field South (NFS) LNG project, the company announced on August 10.
The NFS infrastructure is part of the NFXP development and is designed to supply feed gas for two additional LNG trains and help increase total LNG production in the State of Qatar from the current 77 mtpa to 126 mtpa.
5. ADNOC offshore growth
Scope of work: Jack-up offshore rigs
Abu Dhabi National Oil Co awarded its subsidiary ADNOC Drilling two contracts totalling more than $3.4 billion to hire 8 jack-up offshore rigs.
The contracts, awarded by ADNOC Offshore, will support the expansion of ADNOC’s crude oil production capacity to five million barrels per day (MMbbl/d) by 2030 and enable gas self-sufficiency for the UAE, the state-owned oil company announced on August 5.
