McDermott secures FEED contract for Qatar’s largest offshore oil field

The scope of the contract comprises developing FEED studies for offshore and onshore pipelines, cables, and associated facilities.

Houston-based service provider McDermott International has been awarded a front-end engineering and design (FFED) contract from state-owned QatarEnergy for the second-phase expansion of the North Field South (NFS) LNG project, the company announced on August 10.

The new contract follows awards received by the firm this year for the NFS Jackets and Topsides and Pipelines for the North Field Expansion Project (NFXP).

The NFS infrastructure is part of the NFXP development and is designed to supply feed gas for two additional LNG trains and help increase total LNG production in the State of Qatar from the current 77 mtpa to 126 mtpa.

FEED contract follows other contracts won by McDermott for the NFS project

The North Field lies off the northeast shore of the Qatar peninsula and covers an area of more than 6,000 square km. It is one of the largest single non-associated natural gas fields in the world.

“McDermott is one of the most experienced engineering and construction firms serving the LNG market and has delivered more than 30 LNG Pre-FEED and FEED projects over the past ten years,” Tareq Kawash, McDermott’s senior vice president of Offshore Middle East, said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with QatarEnergy to contribute to the development of this strategic offshore development.”

The scope of the contract comprises developing FEED studies for offshore and onshore pipelines, cables, and associated facilities. The project will be managed from the its Doha office with support from Chennai.
