In an effort to construct an additional storage and pipeline facility, the Bahrain National Gas Expansion Company (BNGEC) has signed an EPC contract with JGC Gulf International, a subsidiary of Japan Gas Corporation.
The signing of the contract, which was worth $98.7mn, was held in a ceremony under the patronage of Bahrain’s minister of oil Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa on October 4 and attended by the Ambassador of Japan in Bahrain.
This contract will form the second part of the Bahrain Gas Plant project at BNGEC, the first part of which was signed earlier this year for the gas processing train for recovering high-value-added products contained in the associated gas with a capacity of 350mn standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
This second part of the project, however, will involve the installation of a new pipeline system to transport gas from the compressor stations to the new gas processing train, a pipeline system to return residue gas for reinjection and a 21 km additional Butane pipeline to Sitra. This also includes the modifications of the Sitra storage facilities to accommodate additional production. The project’s construction is expected to be completed by Q4 of 2018.
This project entails a land reclamation phase and the installation of two additional storage tanks: 200,000bbls for Propane and 100,000bbls for Butane, together with ancillary equipment.
