ADIPEC 2017 preview Q&A: AVEVA

Interviewee: Steen Lomholt-Thomsen, Chief Revenue Officer, AVEVA

What is your company’s scope of business within the oil and gas industry?

AVEVA is a global provider of engineering, design, and information-management software. We enable customers to create, visualise, and manage their assets digitally, which significantly lowers their total cost of ownership (TCO) throughout the asset life cycle. Our vision of a constantly evolving digital asset enables our customers to manage the process of continual change as they design, build, and operate some of the world’s most complex physical assets across the process, plant, and marine industries.

In which countries in the Middle East are you most active, and how do you plan to expand your reach in the region?

The Middle East is a key region for AVEVA and we continue to invest in the region. We are currently active right across the Middle East, catering to many different industry sectors. Our main office for the region is in Dubai.

Understanding our customers, the complexities of their businesses, and the markets in which they participate will allow us to ensure we provide the right solutions.

Which clients do you work with, and what  oil and gas projects have you been involved with recently?

A key focus for any information-intensive business is digital transformation – enabling the business to take advantage of the rich and diverse data sources throughout its supply chain to improve an integrated business approach. In the oil and gas business, technical information is the lifeblood of a facility and, if this information can be harnessed effectively, it can play a significant part in a business improvement programme. This is apparent in a number of projects we have supported across the region, for both EPCs and owner-operators.

What led you to support ADIPEC 2017?

AVEVA has been a long-time supporter of ADIPEC, and its role in bringing together suppliers, customers, and leaders of the oil and gas industry in the Middle East is very important. In the Middle East, we see a trend towards energy companies wanting to become more efficient and competitive while maintaining safety standards. Therefore, we need to showcase the innovations that enable customers to visualise and enhance the operation of their digital assets, and ADIPEC is the perfect place to do this.

What are the main products or services that you will be showcasing at ADIPEC?

AVEVA is celebrating its 50th year, having been spun out of the University of Cambridge in 1967, and we look forward to showcasing where we have taken our software [in that time].

Digitalisation brings change, and this change is providing more ways than ever to improve business processes and methods. The digital representation of your plant or ship is constantly evolving and, to support it, innovative new ways to transform the designing, building, operating of assets are needed.

AVEVA Engage will be on the stands of some of our customers, offering the opportunity for ADIPEC delegates to understand how these companies have used this technology, which  enables the visualisation of a digital asset at every stage of its life cycle, through a simple, touch-driven interface. It is intended to support a wide range of activities where intuitive and immediate access to the digital asset is valuable. For example, it can improve the speed, accuracy, and reliability of decision-making.

We are keen to highlight that, as well as being a software for greenfield projects, AVEVA has much to offer for the cost-effective maintenance and revamping of brownfield sites, and for remote access to expensive and hard-to-reach locations. We believe that there are many worthwhile conversations to be had at ADIPEC 2017.
