The World Energy Council (WEC) has selected Dr. Matar Al Neyadi, Under-Secretary of the UAE Ministry of Energy and Co-Chair of the UAE National Committee for the World Energy Council, as Vice Chairman for the Gulf States/Middle East for a three-year term.
In his new capacity, Neyadi will represent and support the WEC’s expansion and activities in specific geographic regions and activity areas.
Vice Chairmen are elected for a three-year term from nominations submitted to the Executive Assembly by the Chairman.
Abu Dhabi will host the 2019 World Energy Congress to become the first OPEC member state to organise the high-profile energy forum.
‘The selection of Dr. Al Neyadi underscores the recognition of the 100-member world energy body of the UAE’s leading role in the energy fields including renewable and alternative energy’, the ministry says in a statement on its website.
A delegation of UAE officials, led by Dr. Al Neyadi, attended the signing of the contract for Abu Dhabi to host the 2019 World Energy Congress, during the WEC’s 2015 Executive Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, late in October.
The 2019 Abu Dhabi World Energy Congress is envisioned to become the greatest and most decisive Congress the WEC has organised in its 90-year history.
The WEC is the principal impartial network of leaders and practitioners promoting an affordable, stable and environmentally sensitive energy system for the greatest benefit of all.
Formed in 1923, the WEC is the UN-accredited global energy body, representing the entire energy spectrum, with more than 3000 member organisations located in over 90 countries and drawn from governments, private and state corporations, academia, NGOs and energy-related stakeholders.
