Qatar-based Gulf Drilling International (GDI) was named best Oilfield Services Company of the Year at the 6th Oil & Gas Middle East and RPME Awards in Abu Dhabi on 7th of October.
The company was recognised for its quality drilling services it provides to its clients.GDI, which was founded in Qatar in May 2004 as an onshore and offshore oil and gas drilling company, today boasts of an impressive clientele that includes majors such as Qatar Petroleum (QP), Maersk Oil, ExxonMobil and Shell.
Expressing his joy at receiving the award, GDI’s CEO said he was confident that the company would bag the award. “I feel great. I am very happy. Given the contracts that we have won and the activities the company is involved in, I was confident that we will win it,” Mubarak Awaida Al-Hajri said.
GDI faced stiff competition from its rival nominee AlMansoori Specialized Engineering, who was ‘highly commended’ for its performance, with one of the judges calling it “an old stalwart in this category.”
“I know that there were a number of competitors, but we deserved [the award],” Al-Hajri said.
He added that GDI has not been affected by the lower oil prices and market downturn, and on the contrary– has been “doing well”.
The CEO seemed to allay fears about the market turmoil by saying, “The oil and gas industry has a cyclical business. I remember that two years back there was a similar situation. In fact oil prices have already begun rising.”
2014 was a good year for GDI, and so has 2015 been so far, with the company winning a few service contracts. “Our vision is maintain our standards and rise,” Al-Hajri concluded.
