Following news that a large fire had broken out at a gas compression plant at the Rumaila oilfield in south Iraq, the South Oil Company that the blaze is under control.
Firefighters are containing the blaze, Ali Khudhier, director-general of the South Oil Company told Reuters, and the SOC is now allowing the remaining leaked gas to burn off.
No explanation has yet been given for the fire, which according to latest reports has injured fifteen SOC workers. BP and the South Oil Company both stated yesterday the damage to the compressor plant may reduce oil production at Rumaila, as the facility processed associated gas from BP’s field.
