Taqa, the Abu Dhabi state-backed energy firm, has assumed the operator role at the Otter Field off the UK’s Shetland Islands, according to a company announcement.

“The field is located in blocks P.226 Block 210/15a and P.1021 Block 210/20d and is tied back subsea to the Taqa Bratani operated Eider platform,” the statement read. “Average daily production year to date from the Otter Field is approximately 8,000 barrels of oil per day.”

Leo Koot, managing director of Taqa Bratani – the subsidiary of Taqa operating the field – wrote: “Because we are operating Eider we can generate more value from the Otter field than any other operator.”

The announcement follows completion of the first phase of Taqa’s acquisition of Total’s 81% holding in two blocks in the field.
