International hydrocarbon supergiant BP says it has been forced to reduced gas output from the massive Shah Deniz gas field it operates in Azerbaijan due to a shortage of electrical power.
“On Monday we observed problems at a few of the generators which supply power to the platforms,” a company splokesperson told Reuters earlier today. “This lowered the volume of all work at Shah Deniz, including gas output and export”.
The Shah Deniz field is being developed by BP and Statoil as well as SOCAR and some others. It is estimated to contain 1.2 trillion cubic metres of gas.
