Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Thermax Babcock Wilcox (TBW) Energy Solutions as engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) consultant for a new greenfield supercritical boiler component manufacturing facility located at Satara in the state of Maharashtra.
Supercritical boilers are used for the production of electric power. They operate at a ‘supercritical pressure’ and are more efficient as they use less fuel. The global industrial boilers market is estimated to reach 620 thousand tons of steam per hour by 2015. Key factors fuelling the market growth of the boilers are high energy costs, surging demand for thermal power and increased expenditure on electricity infrastructure.
TBW has proposed to develop the US$ 25million project spread over an area of 125 acres of land. The facility will encompass the manufacturing, utility and energy blocks as well as engineering stores, a workshop, warehouse and an administrative building. It will also include a parking area.
Mott MacDonald’s team of experts will provide engineering, procurement assistance and construction management services that are needed throughout the project design and construction phases. This will cover all design disciplines such as civil, structural, and architectural. In addition the consultancy will provide building design services including connection to utilities, electrical and mechanical, piping, HVAC, instrumentation and fire protection.

The project is due for completion by June 2012.
