The keynote address for the upcoming 7th International Sour Oil & Gas Advanced Technology (SOGAT) Conference later this month will be given by Saif Al Ghafli, CEO of Abu Dhabi Gas Development Co. Ltd (now known as Al Hosn Gas), it has been announced. Moreover senior personnel from Al Hosn Gas will give an up to date overview of the major Shah Gas Project and its HSE considerations.
The SGD (Shah Gas Development) field development is a critical infrastructure project for Abu Dhabi’s energy needs and realisation of its Economic Vision 2030. The presentation will give the state of the project which is located 180 km southwest of Abu Dhabi were the topography is dominated by sand dunes with elevation differences exceeding 100 metres and where the field reservoir is about 30 x 5 km .
“Given the challenging location and high Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) content of the Shah Field, Al Hosn Gas has an important responsibility to protect staff, contractors, local communities and the natural environment and therefore set about a vigorous HSE programme,” Al Hosn said in a statement. The programme, it added covers technology selection, site location and plant layout, prevention, detection and control strategies amongst the many other areas.
Al Hosn intends to set a world benchmark in the development of sour gas resources – some 36% of the world’s gas resources to be developed are sour – through the implementation of the HSE programme.
With 30 plus exhibitors also taking part along with workshops and 2 technical forums in addition to the SOGAT conference, SOGAT 2011 seeks to give comprehensive coverage of international sour gas and sulphur management issues that contribute towards the requirement of delivering sweet sales gas that will contribute to the future power requirement plans for the region as a whole.
