Shaybah NGL project EPC job awarded to Samsung

Project to build new facilities and carry out major upgrade work

Saudi Aramco has finalised its bid selection for the four (4) Lump Sum Turn Key (LSTK) contracts of the Shaybah natural gas liquids (NGL) Program, selecting Samsung Engineering Co. Ltd. to perform the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) work for all the four packages. Total cost of the awarded project has not been disclosed.

The scope of this major award includes the construction of the inlet facilities, NGL recovery trains, dehydration, residue gas compression, acid gas compression, NGL storage and shipping, the upgrade of the gas handling capacity for the four (4) existing Shaybah gas oil separation plants (GOSPs) and other associated facilities.

It also includes a major upgrade to increase the power generation capacity to more than 1 Giga Watt (GW) by installing four cogeneration units, seven single cycle units, a 50-kilometer 230 kilo volt (KV) transmission line, and the associated electrical and non-electrical utilities.

In line with Saudi Aramco’s corporate objectives to meet its commitment for the supply of gas to the local market, the company is building a grassroots natural gas liquid (NGL) recovery plant at the Shaybah Field in Rub’ al-Khali, also known as the Empty Quarter.

These facilities will extract valuable NGL components from 2,400 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of Shaybah associated gas arriving from different existing GOSPs.
