Visiting Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner told the Qatari Businessmen Association Tuesday night that the terminal which will be capable of handling 5 million tonnes a year will contribute to developing the gas industry in her country.

De Kirchner is on a three-day visit to Qatar which started on Tuesday, leading a large entourage including a number of ministers, in addition to some 100 businessmen ,representing various industrial sectors ranging from gas and energy , to food, construction, cosmetics, tourism and pharmaceuticals.

Among other topics discussed with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa al Thani were cooperation in the energy sector, technology and food security, she said, noting that these sectors will play a prominent role in shaping up the economies of the 21st century and will help gas producing countries expand the scopes of trade and industrial cooperation with other countries.

She said that her country could exchange expertise in the energy sector with Qatar, underlining her country’s technological expertise and knowhow. Kirchner said her country was developing a new generation of nuclear reactors whose capacity ranges between 25 and 250 megawatt to produce electricity. The reactors could be used in water desalination, she said, underlining that energy, scientific and technological advances should be kept up in order to maintain economic and industrial growth impetus.

De Kirchner said that in addition to the economic privileges secured by Argentine trade activities, the country has recorded a GDP growth of 9 to 13% in November last year, recalling that Argentina could serve as an international example for the peaceful use of nuclear energy in areas such as nuclear medicine and electricity, and other sectors.
