Ducab has been confirmed as the majority cable supplier for the ADCOP Habshan -Fujairah pipeline in a deal worth over US$30 million.

The contract is significant and challenging because the project represents supplying the cabling for a pipeline stretching from one coast of the UAE in Abu Dhabi, to the other coast in Fujairah.

“Of course we are delighted to be awarded this work, especially given that it is a project of national strategic importance,” explained Ducab’s Laith Madi, manager of Oil, Gas and Petrochemical (OGP) sector, at ADIPEC today.

The ADCOP pipeline project is one of several major initiatives being undertaken in the UAE which are being fast-tracked. Other major projects include significance refinery and petrochemical projects in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, and the Integrated Gas Development (IGD) project.

“Ducab will supply the full range of cabling needs for ADCOP. This is a challenging project, not just in terms of the short delivery schedules, but also because of the logistical challenges involved in the huge project,” added Madi.

“The cable order includes high and medium voltage cabling, as well as instrumentation and control cables. The pipeline includes many pumping stations, a great deal of monitoring devices and systems, and export terminals in Fujairah,” he said.

Chinese firm CPECC is undertaking the EPC work on ADCOP.

Abu Dhabi has timed many of its major investment decisions wisely in recent years, and has been able to take advantage of significant cost savings on its major projects.

The news comes soon after Ducab announced it had won major orders on the IGD project, raising the company’s total order for GASCO’s Habshan 5 project to just over US$35 million.

Ducab’s agreement in July with Japan’s JGC Corporation was valued at $13.8 million for the supply of custom power cables to the new Habshan 5 Gas Processing Plant. The company also won the contract to provide Hyundai Engineering & Construction for supporting the utilities and offsite part of the development, a $20.5 million agreement which could see Ducab supplying up to 70% of the associated facility’s total power cables requirements.

Both of the developments are part of Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Gas Development (IGD) Project, a $9.2 billion plan which aims to increase offshore gas production and provide a permanent link between ADNOC’s offshore Umm Shaif field and new onshore processing facilities at Habshan and Ruwais via Das island.

“The recent awards fall into the strategic objective for Ducab to become a dominant cable supplier for OGP projects in the region. Through some of the top EPC contractors in the world, he added that Ducab is committed to being part of global OGP developments and is actively involved in monitoring major OGP ventures from its UAE headquarters,” said Madi.

“These kinds of projects and the growth of the oil and gas sector in UAE – and the GCC in general – were the motivation for us to launch the Special Cables Unit (SCU) at the end of 2009. Focusing on a distinct series of products fitted to the demands of the OGP sector, we can design tailor-made cabling solutions while offering a high level of service and attention through a specialised team within Ducab’s OGP division,” he added.
