An LNG pipeline belonging to the Yemen LNG Company was on Monday subject to an attempted sabotage in the country’s central Shabwah region.

Minor damage was caused to the pipeline which the company said will be repaired quickly. There were no injuries and the pipeline remains in operation and LNG production continues uninterrupted, the statement added.

“Emergency procedures have been activated to monitor and control the situation and security along the pipeline has been reinforced with Yemeni Government forces.”

“Two teams of engineers and experts have been sent to fix the gas pipeline while works here have so far been suspended since today early morning and the emergency situation is still valid till now,” a source at Yemen LNG told Xinhua news agency.

This is the latest in a string of attacks by suspected Al-Qaeda militants on Yemen’s oil infrastructure in recent years.

The Yemen LNG Company is in charge of the country’s largest ever industrial investment (budgeted around US$4.5 billion).
