Kuwait’s KNPC on Monday signed a US$406 million contract with Italy’s Tecnimont to develop an acid-gas removal plant at the emirate’s main refinery, the company said according to AFP.

KNPC’s chairman, Farouk Al-Zanki, who signed the contract, said a new process train of gas handling and sweetening facilities at the 460,000 bpd Mina Al Ahmadi refinery is to be built as part of the contract.

The project is to be completed on a lump-sum turnkey contract basis and is slated for completion in 2014.

The country’s Oil Minister last month said that Kuwait is to invest $35 billion on major oil projects as part of the government’s four-year development plan.

Under the plan, the Mina Al Ahmadi along with the Mina Abdullah refinery would be overhauled to boost capacity  to 700,000-800,000 bpd.
