Algeria’s state energy company, Sonatrach, has decided to enforce a government retirement age limit  for its senior executives who have remained in their positions passed the limit as some of the executives reached the age of 72 years old. The government retirement age in Algeria is 65.
Sontrach has drawn up a list that includes senior executives of its subsidiary NetfoGas, Algerian Petroleum Institue, National Drilling Company and the National Company of Geophysics. The general managers of these companies have been on the top of their companies for more than seven years, and have crossed the retirement age limit, according to Shouroq newspaper.
The majority of these personnel are considered to be part of the old establishment at Sonatrach and aligned with the previous oil and gas minister Chekib Khelil.
The move aims to ban all the procedures related to the previous administration which was involved in a corruption scandal.
