Petrotechnics nets first deployment in Far East

Sentinel PRO rolled out for $2 million deal with Shell Petroleum

Petrotechnics, the global leader in transforming the efficiency and effectiveness of frontline operations in the oil and gas industry, has announced the first major upstream deployment of its electronic integrated safe system of work (ISSOW) Sentinel PRO solution in the Far East.

The project for Brunei Shell Petroleum, worth over $2 million (USD) will see Sentinel PRO become operational in BSP’s on and offshore facilities in the South China Sea by the end of Q3, 2010. It will also see a total of 800 people trained to use the software for daily operational and engineering activities.

Already used in over 85% of the North Sea and a leading solution in the oil and gas industry worldwide, Sentinel PRO recognises and overcomes the challenges in the unstructured and dynamic nature of managing operations, maintenance and associated activity. The web based system controls this through a unified business process, integrating permit to work, risk assessment and isolation management and delivers it to the frontline user in an intuitive graphical real-time software tool.

The initial phase of the project was to implement Sentinel PRO to 27 assets within the Fairley field and training carried out with 300 Brunei Shell Petroleum employees, was completed in May 2009. Petrotechnics supported BSP in the use of Sentinel PRO as part of a summer 2009 shutdown campaign. Outstanding success of this phase accelerated the implementation of a further phase in early 2010.

Iain Mackay, operations director at Petrotechnics, said: “Sentinel PRO incorporates our global experience of business process and effective work activity management, resulting in tangible safety and efficiency improvements. For Brunei Shell Petroleum this will deliver improved transparency of work across all its assets, enhanced communication throughout the organisation and greater efficiencies for work planning as permits and work documentation can be planned in advance, thereby increasing safety and reducing costs across all sites.”

Petrotechnics employs 181 staff across a network of global offices and has corporate agreements in place with six out of the top 10 global oil and gas majors. The company boasts an 85% market share in the UKCS with 40% of the market in deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
