The Dolphin Energy Taweelah-Fujairah gas pipeline will be completed by April 29, despite delays with the second milestone of the project, said the project owner.
The delay has not left the Fujairah II power and desalination plant short of gas, the company said in a statement.
According to a source at Dolphin Energy, difficulties with attaining approval for building the pipeline across highways and close to existing utility plants delayed the completion of the second milestone of the project by eight weeks, so missing the original completion date on March 1, 2010.
“This short delay has no bearing on the date of the completion of the project and Dolphin Energy is committed to completing the project on time,” Dolphin Energy said in a statement to Utilties Middle East.
The 48 inch diameter pipeline will link the receiving facilities at Taweelah in Abu Dhabi with Fujairah, crossing 240 kilometers of desert and mountainous landscape. The second milestone stretches 127 kilometers inland from Tawaleeh.
The delay will has not impacted the delivery of gas for the Fujairah II Integrated Water and Power Plant (IWPP), which will become one of the main recipients of the pipeline’s gas. The plant is currently in its commissioning phase.
“The lateness of the completion of the second milestone has not impacted negatively on the F2 power station at Fujairah. In achieving the first milestone in August 2009, sufficient pipeline capacity was available then for the station to continue its commissioning,” says Dolphin Energy.
Once completed, the US$ 2.7 billion power plant in Fujairah will be the second biggest IWPP worldwide with an installed power capacity of 2,000 MW and a production capacity of 591,500 cubic metres of water per day.
Dolphin Energy already supplies the Fujairah I power and desalination plant via the existing pipeline from Al Ain.
