Rising gas prices on agenda in LNG16 conference

Low gas prices in the spot market affecting long term

Participants at the LNG 16 will discuss the increase of gas prices in the international market, according to Chakib Khelil, Algerian energy and mine minister, who was speaking in a press conference held in Algeria.

The minister expressed his optimism of achieving a positive decision, and to agree on raising the prices and creating stability in the long term.

“The low gas prices in the spot market have a negative impact on the long term contracts, this situation has affected countries like Algeria,” said the minister.

Khelil told reporters that Europe is the main market of Algerian gas, while the US export represents a tiny amount of the total, due to impact of the trading currency.

Delegates participating in the LNG 16, which will be held in Oran, Algeria from the 18th till 21st April, will thrash out the different issues related to the gas industry.
