Qatar is interested in building a new receiving terminal for liquefied natural gas in Europe, with Bulgaria touted as a possible location, it has been reported.

Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister revealed the plans but added that they were unlikely to happen within the next two years.

“This is under study and I don’t think anything would happen before one or two years in this respect,” he said at a joint press conference with visiting Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

“If we are thinking about another terminal, that needs a lot of technical studies,” he added in comments published by Gulf Times.

Qatar is looking for new markets to sell its fuel, and already has terminals in the UK, the US and the Adriatic Sea near Italy.

“A new terminal involves feasibility studies, huge investment and users for the gas. At this moment, we are studying all the options and Bulgaria is on our list,” Sheikh Hamad told the paper.
