The Algerian state oil company Sonatrach has made a gas discovery in Berkine basin.
The El Kheit Tessekha extension-1 well in the Menzel Ledjmat contract area of the basin flowed 44.18 million cubic feet per day of gas.
Sonatrach has also revealed two smaller hydrocarbon finds on permits it operates in the Berkine and Oeud Mya basins.
The firm is the sole operator of the Menzel ledjmat contract area.
Last month Sonatrach insisted projects were going ahead as normal, despite the chief executive of the firm and several senior executives being suspended due to allegations of corruption.
It was estimated last month that the alleged corruption within the firm may have cost Sonatrach US1.22 billion over the last six years. The claims were made by Algerian newspaper El-Khabar, after the firm froze all contracts awarded to it after December 21 of last year.
