A senior official from BP has said that the British supermajor is planning to join forces with Abu Dhabi’s Masdar and build a US$2 billion hydrogen power plant in the UAE.
Zawya Dow Jones reported that Paul Lyndon Bryant, director of the joint venture, Hydrogen Power Abu Dhabi, said that the budget is expected to be sanctioned and engineering procurement and construction (EPC) tenders for work on the project will be issued in the first quarter.
The 400 megawatts plant will be designed so that up to 90% of carbon dioxide generated from the facility will be captured and then injected into Abu Dhabi’s oil fields.
The plant is one of the environmentally friendly initiatives Masdar is developing in the UAE.
