Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil producer, has announced its intention to join the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The decision of Saudi Arabia to join Abu Dhabi-based IRENA was revealed by Helene Pelosse, the agency’s interim director general, and Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the CEO of Masdar at a press conference.
Saudi Arabia will follow new members South Africa, the Kyrgyzstan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, news agency WAM reported.
The announcement was made at the third preparatory session of IRENA, which adopted a budget of $13.7m for the agency for 2010.
