The Swiss power and automation provider ABB has announced that it has been awarded a contract that will see the company provide equipment and related services for the Kauther Depletion Compressor Project for Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).
The award, made by the project leader GE Oil & Gas, will see ABB deliver two variable speed drive systems for the compressor application; each with a 17 MW 1500 rpm synchronous motor, LCI converter, four winding transformers and filters; switchgear and chiller for converter cooling.
The company will also provide related engineering services, including a network study to ensure the optimal performance of the installed system.
“This contract highlights ABB’s ability to provide the electrical solutions and services needed to optimize a wide range of processes and applications,” Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s Process Automation division said.
“ABB advanced technology solutions for this project will help the customer achieve exceptional performance, energy savings and better control of the process,” he added.
Located on the northern edge of the major central Oman gas fields, the Kauther gas field depletion compressor project will extract the remaining natural gas from a number of existing wells.
