The mystery regarding last month’s resignation of Dr Shokri Ghanem as the Libyan energy minister and chairman of the state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC) deepened today after a senior source in Tripoli told ArabianOilandGas.com that he is expected to be re-appointed to both of his former roles as part of a major re-structuring of the oil industry in the North African state.
“I can ensure you more than 90% that Dr Ghanem will be reappointed as a head of the NOC,” the source told ArabianOilandGas.com in a telephone call.
“He is in holiday, he will back to his position soon,” he added.
Last month it was reported that Ghanem had resigned from both roles after a disagreement over Libya’s increasingly nationalistic oil policies. Ghanem was also not present when the OPEC member states met in Vienna last month.
Neither the NOC or the Libyan government has issued a statement clarifying Ghanem’s position.
