Iran is to store liquid gas in order to prevent a potential domestic shortage in the winter.
The country is expecting to face shortages of natural gas in this coming winter and is also expected to increase imports to deal with the problem.
“We expect a natural gas shortage of around 7.06 billion cubic feet during the approaching winter, but we hope to prevent a cutoff of gas flow by storage of needed gas for power plants and management of household consumption,” Iran’s Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi told Iranian press.
Last week Iran announced plans to increase its natural gas output by one billion cubic feet of gas per day, after inaugurating a new gas platform in the South pars gas field.
In 2008 the country suffered gas cuts which left 11 cities with poor quality or no heating.
