One of the worst kept secrets in oil and gas has been finally confirmed after KBR officially announced that it has been awarded the front-end engineering and design (FEED), and project management services (PMS) contract by Saudi Aramco for the Shaybah Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Program at Shaybah field located in the KSA.

“KBR is committed to providing our client with quality FEED and project management services,” John Quinn, president of KBR Downstream said.

Additionally, this award, along with our existing work at Ras Tanura and YANBU, signifies our continued commitment to support Saudi Aramco development programs,” he added.

KBR said that the contracts involves the company providing FEED and PMS services to develop the process design, layout, develop equipment and material specifications, prepare bid packages and develop an estimate for the construction for several projects related to the Shaybah NGL Program facilities.

KBR will also assist Saudi Aramco in managing and directing the work related to other Shaybah Program projects.

The contract is the second major gas development award made by Aramco recently. Last week Canadian contractor SNC-Lavalin announced that it had won the FEED and PMS contract for the Wasit Gas Development Program (WGDP).

A spokesman for SNC-Lavalin said at the time that KBR had won Shaybah.

The Shaybah Program is designed to help meet the rising domestic demand for gas and feedstocks for petrochemical projects. Work on the project is expected to begin in October 2009.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.
