ADNOC subsidiary awards China $218m rig contract

CNPC subsidiary wins race to build rigs for National Drilling Company

In a statement released to the press the National Drilling Company (NDC) said it signed the deal with the Chinese company after a lengthy tender process involving several other international companies.

The deal will see BOMCO, a subsidiary of China’s largest oil producer, the China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), construct an unspecified number of onshore drilling rigs.

The statement also said that the deal is one of the largest rig acquisition ventures Abu Dhabi has ever undertaken.

ADNOC has said that it plans to raise its oil capacity by 40% to 4 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2015.
