After a month of delays, which has seen a number of tankers moored off the coast of Kuwait, the Mina Al Ahmadi LNG terminal has finally received its first commercial cargo.

According to Reuters’ AISLive ship tracker, the 147,000m³ Grand Aniva tanker from the Sakhalin II project was docked at the port earlier this week.

The Mina Al-Ahmadi terminal is run jointly by Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) and US firm Excelerate Energy.

The arrival of the Grand Aniva marks the first of a series of deliveries agreed as part of a deal between KNPC and Shell to supplement Kuwait’s growing domestic demand as the country develops its own gas reserves.

Other ships, including the Sohar LNG tanker, the Grand Mereya and the Trinity Arrow (both from Sakhalin) are expected to dock within the next two weeks.
