Sources in Kuwait have said that the US energy giant GE has followed up its recent multi-billion dollar contract award in Iraq by being selected to build the US$2.27 billion 2000 megawatts Subbiya power plant in the Gulf state.
Un-named sources were quoted by Middle East newspaper al-Watan as saying that out of the pre-qualified bidders GE had submitted the successful tender for the plant, which is expected to come on stream in 2011.
The other bidders include Siemens (Germany), Mitsui & Co and Marubeni Corporation (Japan), Iberdrola Ingenieria Y Construccion (Spain), and the Canadian contractor SNC-Lavalin Limited.
