Grandweld, part of the GMMOS Group, has delivered the Bourbon Yack – the first vessel in a series of four escort tugs for Bourbon Supply investissements, France. Remaining vessels of the same series Bourbon Ox, Bourbon Auroch and Bourbon Bison are scheduled to be delivered during 2009.
These vessels are high-performance ASD terminal escort tugs, designed for berthing and unberthing large ships, particularly oil and LNG tankers at exposed terminals, providing a high standard of tanker escort capability, and providing emergency response and fire-fighting capabilities in the vicinity of hydrocarbon terminals. The vessel is equipped with automation and instrumentation for normal duty operations with unmanned engine room designation.
These vessels are powered by two Mak 9M25 engines, each producing 2970kW and with two Schottel SRP 3030CP propulsion units. The hulls are designed for fuel efficiency and are ideal for the harsh operating conditions of the operating region.
Jamal Abki, Grandweld general manager said the company has built a strong reputation for delivering offshore vessels and tugs on time.
