Bahrain’s minister for energy affairs, Abdul-Hussain bin Ali Mirza has said that the two foreign countries to submit bids to develop the Gulf micro-state’s deep gas exploration project are Occidental Petroleum from the US and Canadian Natural Resources.
According to news agency Reuters, the bids will be reviewed by the country’s oil ministry as well as the state-owned Bahrain Petroleum Company, before the successful bidder being announced later in the year.
Bahrain’s soaring gas demand is believed to be the reason behind the move to develop the deep onshore gas fields. Consumption is expected to hit 2 billion cubic feet of gas per day within a decade.
