The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has delayed an essential tender for the US$10 billion Shah gas field joint venture according to a source close to the project.

News agency Zawya Dow Jones reported that a tender covering the construction of the  liquid sulfur pipeline had been delayed and as a result could jeopardise the project’s scheduled completion date of 2013.

“The pipeline has to work. There is no other option. There will not be a project otherwise because there has to be an outlet,” the source is reported as Zawya Dow Jones as saing.

ADNOC announced four tenders for the Shah field at last month’s Gastech 2009 conference. However, the package covering the construction of the 136km pipeline that will transfer the sulfur to Ruwais where it will be granulated was not released due to a lack of suitable bidders.

“Its a major package and they are still wondering what to do with it,” the official added.
