Live from Houston: Attendance at the 2009 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is showing a strong start. On Monday, 4 May, registration on-site was even higher than 2008, bucking the global conference and exhibition trends set in the first quarter of 2009. Expectation remains on target for final attendance around the 65,000 mark.

Improved opening footfall is proof that the oil and gas industry, particularly high-end technical contractors and equipment providers are weathering the economic downturn well, and that competition for major deals is intense.

“We are pleased with the attendance at OTC. Attendees are getting the word about the health precautions we are taking, and also about the extended technical program offering more special panel events and discussions. In addition, the exhibition is the largest since 1982,” said OTC 2009 chairperson Don Vardeman. “Even in the face of global economic situation and initial flu concerns, OTC remains the show to attend for offshore resources development.”

Marking the 40th anniversary since it was founded in 1969, the Offshore Technology Conference is the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection.
