The deputy head of Russian energy giant Gazprom has stated that Qatar, Iran and Russia will be the only countries producing a significant amount of natural gas by the year 2030.
The Iranian Moj news agency reported that Alexander Medvedev said other gas producing nations will not be in a position to export the resource in major amounts by that year due to increasing global demand.Â
Iran and Qatar rank second and third respectively behind Russia in regards to gas reserves and both countries are looking to tap into the lucrative European market. Iran recently revealed plans to pump natural gas into Southern Europe via a pipeline while Qatar has started exporting major quantities of the resource to the UK.
Qatar has also agreed a deal to supply Poland with a significant amount of gas in the future and has met with Bulgarian officials for talks about building a LNG terminal in the country.
