DEWA regulations ‘will reduce utility bills’

New regulations aimed at lowering costs and carbon footprints

DEWA’s green building regulations will reduce utility bills, according to a facilities management (FM) expert.

Mick Dalton, general manager of Marafeq Facilities Management, also believes the new regulations will create more jobs in the FM sector. Low energy light bulbs, solar panels and energy saving modules for air conditioning are all featured in the regulations.

“Savings on utility bills alone can more than cover the installation and maintenance costs over a period of time and in that sense they are self financing,” stated Dalton. “Indeed I believe it is essential that FM experts are consulted at the building design stage to increase the lifecycle of the building and present a better return on investment for the building owner.”

Dalton added that companies in the FM industry will need more technical staff in order to ensure that routine maintenance such as monitoring electricity consumption and optimising water usage is carried out.
