French oil giant Total is expected to start commissioning its LNG train in Yemen during the second half of 2009, according to Yves-Louis Darricarrère, executive vice president of Total and the president of exploration and production.

“We will launch our commissioning of LNG during the second half of this year. The second train will come later, but we are on schedule,” Darricarrère said.

Speaking exclusively to Arabianoilandgas in Qatar Darricarrère also said that Total is preparing to bid for the first round of Iraqi oilfields in partnership with the US Chevron.

Commenting on Total’s presence in Sudan Darricarrère said: “We haven’t yet resumed our operations in Sudan. We are just preparing to resume, but we have yet to decide when that will actually happen.”

Darricarrere went on to tell Arabianoilandgas that “more work has to be done” in regards to their Iran projects.

“[In Iran] both the development scheme and the contractor framework need to be studied.  The sooner international oil companies can work in Iran, the better it will be for the oil market.”
