GE signs US$200 million aluminum deal

GE Energy has signed a US$200 million service contract with Emirates Aluminum (EMAL) to provide a range of services to the gas turbines on the firm’s aluminum shelter.

The contractual service agreement (CSA) is designed to support the power requirements of the project, which is near Al Taweelah in Abu Dhabi.

“The CSA will provide GE technical experience and support for the EMAL power plant, allowing the customer to focus on its core objective of producing aluminum,” said John Krenicki, GE vice chairman, president and CEO of GE Energy Infrastructure.

“The reliable supply of power is key to the overall success of this milestone project, which will set new technology standards for the aluminum industry in the Middle East and help position the UAE as a leading player in this competitive global industry.”

The gas turbines used in the shelter are equipped with GE Energy emission control technologies in order to reduce the carbon footprint.
