Corodex Electromechanic has won the contract to develop the vacuum sewerage system for the Formula One track on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

The firm will supply, install, commission, operate and maintain the system, which will be made up of around 10km of long vacuum sewer line and 200 vacuum chambers. According to Corodex, the system is environmentally friendly and has no exfiltration or infiltration into the surrounding areas.

“The occasional use of the race track makes the vacuum sewerage an ideal solution, compared to traditional gravity systems, as it uses air instead of water to transport sewage,” commented Concorde director of business development Mohanned Awad.

Similar systems, supplied by Roediger Vacuum Gmbh, have been installed on the Palm Jumeirah and Palm Deira in Dubai.

The grand stands, facilities and surrounding buildings will be connected up to one vacuum station when the work is complete.
