ABB has been awarded a US$490 million contract in Algeria as part of the El Merk oil and gas project.
The Swiss company were given the contract by from Groupement Berkine and is part of a plan to develop hydrocarbon deposits in the El Merk Basin in the Algerian Sahara Desert.
The head of ABB’s Process Automation division, Veli-Matti Reinikkala said: “The new installations will help our customer improve output and achieve their production targets,”
“This contract underscores ABB’s ability to execute complex projects for the oil and gas industry,” he added.
Groupement Berkine is co-managed by the Algerian state-owned energy giant Sonatrach and Anadarko. The total value of the project is $650 and production from the development is due to start in 2012.
ABB will be responsible for design and installation of pipelines, field gathering stations, gas distribution manifolds and flowlines/trunklines, as well as water and gas re-injection facilities.
